Fallout 3 Steam Crash On Start
I bought Fallout 3 on steam a long time ago, but I was never able to get it to work, but I played the retail version on another computer for at least one hundred hours. I cannot get the game to let me start a new game. I have tried d3d9.dll, disabling LIVE, run as administrator, disabling aero, uninstalling, reinstalling, changing the.ini files to add multiple core support, moving dlc files, and windowed mode. At this point I am not even dreaming of installing any mods, I just want the game to run. My cpu is an AMD Phenom ii x6 1090t and my graphics card is a Radeon HD 5870. The main menu functions, but I cannot start a new game as soon as I click new game, it immediately stops responding.
Can someone please suggest how to get the game to run. run as administrator. disabling aero.
changing the.ini files to add multiple core support. moving dlc files. windowed modeAll the above colored and highlighted items pretty much covers the game it's self. Note:What I do not see here, are your system specs. Being that #1 was used, that Eliminates a codec problem with an intel machine.being that sense I last posted, was able to duplicat this exact senerio and drive set up so that's been covered too. Yes, the game will run off of a flash drive, server, a computer accross the planet and it will not matter one bit. How ever, your system graphics cards data, and it's drivers do matter.

100%.what Ifound for you was the nstalled proceedure + the systems hardware drivers are at fault. I bet you have a cd to install all of that. If by chance it's catalyst? That is a know problem installer. ATI software is very particular when you use it. You must specify during the setup if it is to install the chipset, the hardware drivers and the graphics driver.
IF by chance your system security is set too high, these driver will not run even if installed. Any program that installs into the windows default directory, C:ProgramFiles and folders: will be subjected to permision rights. Windows 7 and 8 both have Group settings too, If you have messed around with UAC ' user account controls', you have set the ball rolling. Once touched, the system will now always focus on that data.
The only recorse I found to undue UAC control tampering was to completly un install all software including.net, every thing the system installed. Run a system cleaner, registry cleaner and just wipe the deck of the mess made. Reinstall only system attributs and test things slowly to make sure you have authorization of editing or even looking at files on the hard drive. If you find any files and it tells you 'you do not have permissions to do that', wipe the hard drive and start over and never touch UAC again. By default it's set at medium which is rewuired by the windows update program for remote installs, this remote installs includes any software at all.bottom line. Your graphics drivers are not loading.kitty.

Hey,So I downloaded the Fallout 3 GOTY edition on steam. I want to run it on my macbook that has VMWare. When I launch the game, the main menu appears and I can change settings and such, but when I hit play the program just closes.
I checked the FAQ and when I go to 'Documents/my games/Fallout 3' the only file in the folder is 'FalloutPrefs'. This file does not contain the lines the FAQ says to change. What can I do to fix this? Any help you guess can provide would be much appreciated!!. Hey there, also running windows 10. I copied a comment how i got it to run.
Fresh install win 10, installed steam, installed fo3, would not start. Put both the launcher.exe and fo3.exe to run as administrator, got the oridinal 42 error, installed stupid games for windows live. Not needing to login. Started fo3, got through first time setup without errors, and it starts, went as far as starting a new game and going as far as the 10th birthday, saved and exit the game to desktop.I understand you can get it to start but it crashes on new game, one more thing i did is not having the steam overlay running on top of it.
