Well since you don't want to use Vilja I suggest using CM Companions. It comes with a bunch of preexisting companions that can be found in various places such as Taverns. You can also use custom made CM companions such as Aragorn, Jessica Alba, Kristin Kreuk, and Adriana Lima etc.Another option is Companion Neeshka and the custom variants such as Emma Watson and Megan Fox. These companions can be a little more useful as they have some options to perform functions such as keeping you healed in or out of combat.
